1. The model
Cold Brew is the engine layer. This server is one game built with it.
Four roles control major production systems. Players trade because no one can produce everything alone.
Only production is restricted. Anyone can use, wear, eat, ride, place ordinary blocks, or trade finished goods.
2. Primary roles
| Role | Seats | Controls |
|---|---|---|
| Builder | 2 | Effortless Building and refined decorative blocks. |
| Delver | 3 | Reliable ore extraction; protected diamond, emerald, and ancient debris. |
| Engineer | 2 | Crafting, placing, configuring, and assembling Create machinery. |
| Quartermaster | 2 | Agriculture and iron-or-better equipment production. |
3. Hobbies
Hobbies grant a smaller specialty without replacing a primary role.
| Hobby | Access |
|---|---|
| Hodcarrier | Place refined blocks one at a time. |
| Prospector | Mine gated ores with a 50% shatter risk. |
| Millwright | Install and operate Create machines; cannot manufacture parts. |
| Gardener | Plant and harvest wheat, carrots, potatoes, and beetroot. |
| Toolsmith | Produce approved iron-tier tools. |
| Chef | Use Farmer's Delight recipes and kitchen stations. |
| Lumberjack | Fell connected trees with the built-in capped tree-feller. |
| Shipwright | Craft Small Ships vessels. |
Coming later: Decorator, Surveyor, Vanguard, Alchemist, Ranger, and Cartographer. They cannot be selected yet. Enchanter is retired from the proposal because the Great Purge removes XP and enchanting.
4. Rules and perks
- Gates run on the server and cover ores, refined blocks, Effortless Building, Create, agriculture, and equipment output.
- Denied actions restore predicted items and blocks. A rule should not eat a stack.
- Primary respec: 14-day cooldown and 24 hours of relearning.
- Hobby respec: separate three-day cooldown per hobby.
- Builder: +2 block reach and one-tick clutch-placement fall protection.
- Delver: no mining fatigue, night vision below Y=0, and a 25% bonus roll on protected veins.
- Lumberjack: connected-tree felling capped at 96 logs.
/mastery opens the editor. /mastery info, /mastery census, and /mastery hobby list show current state.
5. Relics
Relics require a player kill and drop separately from the boss's normal loot.
| Relic | Source | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Emberfang | Warden · 10% | Ignites the target. |
| Iron Longsword | Wither · 10% | Knockback plus nearby damage. |
| Astra Sword | Ender Dragon · 5% | Full-charge burst, once per minute, with bounded damage. |
Glint and bloom apply to blades only. Emberfang is blue, the Longsword is red, and Astra cycles evenly through eight colors. All three emit zero world light.
The Great Purge removes the End and vanilla boss progression, so these relic sources must move to expedition bosses before cutover.
6. Expeditions acceptance test
The Karego Hunt is the first complete route: one to five players draw an omen and two hunt sites, sail to the authored Karego Isles, choose whether to raid Crown Vault, reveal a lair, wake Cervus Cruoris, then escape Blood Tide aboard their own ship.
Open the exact run, reward, recovery, and operator rules →
| Part | Current rule |
|---|---|
| Crew | Captain plus up to four nearby invitees. Everyone must be online, ready, and at the dock. |
| Risk | Death, leaving the boundary, or missing the reconnect window removes expedition cargo and restores the saved departure state. Items cannot be dropped or deposited into route caches. |
| Recovery | Restart, abort, invalid boss, missing world, and other engine failures roll back each still-active crew member without reversing completed or lost outcomes. |
| Rewards | Two required caches, the optional Crown Vault, a real Crimson Antler, Create progression stock, omen cargo, and a vault bonus. XP and native boss drops are suppressed. |
| Return passage | Opens only after the exact tracked boss finishes its death rite and disappears. Every survivor must board the brigg and confirm; rewards settle only after the ship reaches its home berth. |
Karego 0.4 issues no XP. Its caches and successful-return award now supply authored cargo and Create progression stock.
7. Client changes
- Custom Play, Character, Options, and Quit menu. No server browser.
- Character editor for the primary role and three hobby slots. Offline changes are rechecked by the server on join.
- Native expedition charter with route intel, crew invites/readiness, rewards, records, cooldown, and live phase timers.
- Physical forge stations for heating, shaping, quenching, tempering, and grinding, backed by a high-refresh forge interface with a native fallback.
- Cold Brew and News visual themes.
- Custom health and food unit frames; XP bar and level hidden.
- House longsword models, tuned first-person hands, and a working wristwatch.
- Inter replaces the pixel font in the custom interface.
8. Mod stack and exclusions
Core systems: Create UfoPort, Effortless Building, Farmer's Delight, Simply Swords, Simply Tooltips, Small Ships, and Lithosphere. Client versions are locked by filename and SHA-256.
- Better Combat: intentionally not installed.
- Voxy: removed from the macOS pack because macOS lacks the required OpenGL DSA path.
- FallingTree: removed. Lumberjack uses one server-owned implementation.
- Vanilla bow: retained after the custom bow failed play testing.
9. The Great Purge block pilot live
The current direction keeps ordinary toolcraft through stone and makes the Quartermaster responsible for equipment above stone. It removes the Nether, End, experience, enchanting, villages, and the vanilla progression those systems create. Minecraft remains underneath as the runtime Cold Brew and the installed mods compile against.
The server can cold-boot with all 1,290 vanilla recipes removed, but that test is a capability ceiling rather than the chosen policy. The final allowlist keeps basic tools and every required mod path; Create remains first-class through a deliberate material, fluid, entity, and recipe compatibility layer.
The deployed client now filters creative tabs and search from the same fail-closed manifest published on this site. 1,061 block states are approved, including every concrete color and powder plus Cold Brew's four forge stations. End materials, mud brick, netherrack, enchanted books, tipped arrows, and spectral arrows are sealed. The plain book and arrow remain. The server also refuses sealed block placement.
10. Status and next work
- Audit closed: no open critical or high-severity first-party findings.
- Backups, whitelist, online authentication, secure profiles, watchdog, config validation, mod verification, tests, and CI are in place.
- The expedition world rejects ambient mobs, stale cache drops, terrain edits, orphaned boss auxiliaries, and snapshot-duplication transfers.
- Great Purge block pilot: 1,061 approved states are visible; concrete and the four forge stations stay, End blocks, mud brick, and netherrack are sealed, and unknown blocks fail closed.
- Teardown capability: all 1,290 vanilla recipes are boot-tested removable, allowing the final recipe surface to be an explicit allowlist.
- This website runs on the Athion homelab. Cold Brew 0.5.4 is current on
main; the audited local server and Prism pack run 0.5.2.
Next: test the remaining creative menu, decide the 673 unresolved vanilla block states, then extend the filter to recipes, HMI, commands, loot, world generation, dimensions, XP, enchanting, and villages.
